Turtle Deck

Finishing the turtle deck (PICS)
I spent the morning riveting up the middle three formers. Not too difficult except for contorting myself to get to all of the rivets. I have a new respect for all of the builders out there who build these things later in their lives...it is not easy to get to some of these spots!

The only little trick I used was to use some more of those little spacers I made up in the last entry to fill any of the gaps between the turtle deck and the formers prior to riveting. This did an excellent job of avoiding the deep craters and lines I have seen on some other polished Sonex where the skin gets pulled in to meet the former. All in all I only had to use about 6 of them throughout the middle former assemblies.

All that is left is to install the four bolts on the upper forward portion of the attach points and to rivet up the main box cross tie. I will get that done tomorrow, then I will be unable to work on it for about a week with other responsibilities.

Finally, have I mentioned how cool it is to see all of these plane parts coming together!!!!
