Hello everybody my name is Rhett Ashton. I am entering the amazing world of building my own airplane. This has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. Both of my Grandfathers are pilots and have been a huge inspiration for this project. I can't wait to be able to fly with them.

I have chosen to build the Sonex, it is a well designed aircraft that has good performance and low cost. I purchased the plans in July of 2006 and now I have finally started to build.

UPDATE 8-18-2010: After a lot of thought I've decided to switch gears and buy the kit instead of scratch building. The time saved by building from the kit is too hard to ignore. I will be placing my order next week. Stay tuned!

UPDATE 10-6-2010: Well, after some more thought and going over what I've already built and the materials I've already purchased. I've decided to keep on going the scratch built route. I will more than likely purchase the formed aluminum kit, fiberglass kit, spar extrusions, and rivets from Sonex, but the rest I will be doing by myself with the help of my Dad who is an excellent fabricator and machinist. I figured between the two workshops we should be able to clip along at a pretty fast pace.

UPDATE 1-28-2011: I've been able to work on the Sonex quite a bit over the last couple of months and have made great progress. I will be updating this log often so stay tuned.

UPDATE 8-19-2011: Just updated 4 months worth of work. Lots of information and pics.
