Cabin Heat
Installed Muff and SCAT
I received the replacement muff from Robbins Wings yesterday in the mail. Vetterman sends a muff tailored for a carburetted Lycoming with cabin air inlet @ cylinder 3 rear baffle. Mine is an injected M1B with the cabin air inlet at Cylinder 1 ramp.
The swap is free except for shipping. Nice.
I worked on this for a lot longer than you would think. The muff did not get tight on the exhaust pipe. The instructions tell how to enlarge 4 rod holes to correct the situation. It took 2 iterations before it finally fit tightly.
If this muff ever breaks, I think I will make my own. There is nothing wrong with Robbins workmanship. It is very nice. I think the custom details (like where I mounted the inlet on the #1 ramp) change how the muff fits with the SCAT tubing. I have some tight spots (read chafe) that I think could be alleviated by changing the port angles on the muff.
