Ribs

Cut slots in aileron nose / pocket ribs and flap nose ribs
Once you've got the parts routed, there's an easy way to make the slots. While they're still clamped together in groups, take them to the drill press and drill a hole at the back of the slot. Once all of the holes are drilled take them to the band saw and cut from the outside edge to the hole. This is harder than it appears just because it's hard to see exactly where the blade is due to the form block sitting on top. You've got to have a good light and get the right angle.

BETTER IDEA: Take the top form block off and then tighten the nuts down again. Now when you're cutting you'll have excellent visibility of exactly what you're cutting. Most importantly you can be dead on accurate with the cut so there are no little burrs where the band-saw cut meets the hole you drilled. Why is this important? Because as I discovered later on, SMOOTH IS RELATIVE! When you're done routing, drilling and sawing as described here and in other entries, the edges of your aluminum ribs should be incredibly shiny, straight and smooth. Once you have to start filing you will find that even a fine file leaves file marks on the edge of your work. SO... if you want to save yourself a lot of filing work later on, be DEAD ON ACCURATE when you cut the slots. Don't leave any burrs or little imperfections and you won't have to file!

BETTER IDEA UPDATE: Make sure you only cut 4-5 at a time or the blade will wander and you'll be back to filing!
