Continue Elevator Assembly
Set elevator skin on the bench and fitted the rib center section and the outboard ribs inside. There is a snug fit between the ends of the ribs and the hinge side of the skin. Aligned the centerlines of the ribs with the holes in the skin, then checked that everything was straight and level. Drilled and cleco'd the center section at #40. Then drilled and cleco'd the mid-outboard ribs. Before drilling the end ribs, I positioned them just inside the centerlines to achieve a total elevator width of 202 mm. (The distance on the stabilizer is 206 mm.) Redrilled and cleco'd the center section to #20 for the A5's.
Flipped assembly over and supported it on four 2x4's to keep the clecoes off the bench. Checked that everything was straight and level. Used clamps strategically to ensure that the taper of the trailing edge remained symnmetrical. Then I #40 drilled and cleco'd the center section ribs and channel, then the outboard ribs. Redrilled the center section to #20 for the A5's.
I did not drill the hinge area yet.
