Just an old flyer who likes to build
I am Doug Boyd, 62 years old and I've been flying since I was 16. I hold a Commercial pilot's license with IFR, multi engine, and glider ratings but only have about 1000 hours. I've flown most single engine types in the Piper and Cessna lines with some Beech and Mooney types thrown in. I had always rented aircraft until a bit of heart trouble a few years back prevented renewing my medical. I have the medical back now, but meantime, rather than quit flying (unacceptable)I built a Quad City Challenger II Special in anticipation of Light Sport flying. I've had a great time putting about 200 hours on the Challenger, but I found I really enjoyed the building of it. Therefore, I've embarked on this new project.

I chose the Waiex for several reasons. It is Light Sport qualified, important as I consider my medical always in jeapordy. It is reasonably priced. I like the all metal construction(some new things to learn)and I like pop rivets. The Sonex people have really been impresive, have had time to improve the design and kit, and the airplane has a strong reputation with lots of them flying. And, I like the performance being at the top end of LSA. At about 60 hours into the project I'm loving it. Why Waiex over Sonex? I think the Y tail is way cool!

The attached picture is me, a happy builder at the Sonex workshop.
