The Sonex
The Sonex is an "all" aluminum airplane, mostly made out of the 6061 T6 aluminum alloy, which seems to be pretty popular for homebuilt aircraft construction. It is held together with pulled rivets ("pop" rivets). The rivets are specialized for aviation applications. The individual parts of the airframe are cut out of aluminum stock (by the builder,if building from scratch--which I am), carefully bent to their proper shape if need be, drilled and deburred, and then fastened with the aforementioned rivets (and bolts in some places.)

The Sonex can be built in either tri-gear (nose wheel) or taildragger configuration. I haven't decided which configuration I'll build yet. The taildragger is much better suited for turf airstrips than the tri-gear.

The wings on the Sonex are removable (though it takes some time and work to do it) for storage or transport.
