Van's RV-8A
Jim and Bob's RV-8A Project
This website has been constructed to allow me and my dad to document our attempt at building our version of a Van's RV-8A aircraft. It has been a project in the works for about four years now and when we began around 2001 we never intended to have this plane built in a year. We have had long stretches of construction where we have made exceptional progress along with long stretches of inactivity because of work commitments, family responsibilities, and family illness. We are now, in 2005, finally able to devote more time to construction and are steadily moving ever so closer to completion. We have completed the empennage, and the left wing along with their respective control surface's. We are well into the construction of the right wing and should receive the fuselage kit around the first of August, 2005. Barring any unforeseen problems or other commitments, we will likely have our most productive year in 2005. You can read a little more about us, the builders, in the builders section of this site. For those unfamiliar with the type of plane we are building it is a two place tandem aircraft of aluminum construction. The model we are building, the 8A is a tricycle gear plane. A tail dragger in the same configuration is also available as is several models with side by side seating. Above is a picture of an RV-8A like we are constructing. They are beautiful planes that are designed for speed and agility. They make excellent cross country airplanes and, if so desired and equipped, can be used for light aerobatics. Equipped with a 180 or 200 h.p. Lycoming aircraft engine they are capable of cruise speeds of around 200 MPH or better. Van's Aircraft Inc. produce several variations of this aircraft, and their aircraft are the most popular and most successful kit aircraft, in terms of numbers completed, in the U.S. and as far as I know, in the world. You can read more about the model we are building in the project section of our website and more about the kit's that are available from Van's Aircraft at their website at WWW.Vansaircraft.com.
