Spar alumiprep cleaning with dunk tank and clean-out spar tools.
Spar Alodine and cleaning set-up
The sewer pipe and plug allowed alumiprep cleaning and alodineing of spars. The polish pad attached to many sleeved and bolted broomsticks allow cleaning of the many drillings from the spars.
This takes more setup but does a good job.
Instrument hole tool
Bought this even though John had one. His was a bit dull. Used to make 2.25", 3.125" and even the 1" hole for vacuum guage. Shown is the first 2.25" cut-out (transponder).
John's paint gun holder.
HVLP spray gun
I ordered this gun from Harbor Freight as it was recommended by John from many builders. He really liked the operation and quality. Later since it has no way to set it down he built a paint gun holder for it.
I cut some with knife and used center files for final work.
Tools for flapperon weight balancing
Here are the best files to use on the lead weights. I cleaned the mold flashing off and sanded weight clean first then I had to remove very little lead as these Catalina flapperons are the longest. So do final trimming with file and weight in place and sand to dress afterwards.
3 scales, ramps, wires, and an indicator box, charger, level all fit into the nice but heavy box on wheels.
Aircraft Scales!
A great help to do all the moment arm measurements that I lacked. Larry Cheatwood on Campus Avionics allowed me to barrow/rent the scales for use over the Thanksgiving break. I made many weighings and used them to compute front and rear seat arms and main fuel tank arm. Also used them to compute wing sposnson weight and arm for future W&B adjustments.
