Fuel Tanks

Fuel tank is on the wing!
Today I finished up the tank attach brackets, drilling the rest of the holes for attaching to the rear baffle of the fuel tank, and the locator holes for the connections to the front spar. I clecoed in the attach brackets, and put temporary AACQ 4-4 pop rivets in place, two per bracket, to hold them in place while matchdrilling on the wing. The end brackets got clecoed in from the front edge, and the entire fuel tank was ready to put in place on the wing.

My wife called a halt to any further building activities for the night at this point, but the next step is to cleco everything together and hang plumb bobs off the ends of the front spar and measure the strings against the rear spar to check for wing twist, in excess of 3/32" difference. This is actually going to have to wait a few days, I had to rob about 40 or so clecoes from the wing assembly just to fab together the fuel tank - I'm short on 3/32" clecoes. Since I wanted to make sure everything was buttoned up nice and tight before I check for wing warp or twist, I placed an order with Van's for the Pro Seal (which I'll need anyway for the tank), another 100 3/32" clecoes, and a bunch of other little miscellaneous building items. Once the clecoes come in then I'll proceed. In the meantime, my loving wife has not yet run out of things for me to tend to around the house....

The wing is looking like a wing now!
