Center Fuselage
Fuselage Step Holes & Arm Rests
2.0 hours
Back from vacation with a serious case of RV-itis. So I cured my withdrawal pains with a few hours in the shop, in spite of a slight jet lag!
I removed the front skins, set up the fly cutter on the drill press and drilled the holes for the steps. To set the fly cutter radius, I used outside calipers and set them for clearance around the bead of the weld that is located at the base of the step torque tube where it is welded to the step mounting plate. The worst case was 1 7/8" dia. So, with the fly cutter set at the proper radius, I made quick work of getting these drilled and the front skins back in place.
The next step is to fit the F-920 arm rests. These need to be fluted in order to match the pre-punch holes in the fuselage sides. I only got the right one fitted before calling it a day. The picture shows the right arm rest in place before fluting.
